Porto Moniz is well known for its open-air swimming pools, which are the result of the volcanic activity during Madeira Island's formation, being mostly formed by reefs in the coastal lava rocks. Walkways and bridges connect the naturally formed rock pools.

These natural pools are a great place for swimming, sunbathing, diving or simply to relax. It's constantly refreshed by the crystal clear waters of the Atlantic as the waves break against the rocks.

This bathing complex as entertainment and activities for everyone: there is a children's playground and a children's pool. The complex employs five lifeguards and first aid station. This complex offers changing rooms with lockers and of course showers. You will also be able to safely park your car park nearby.

For scuba diving and apnea lovers it will be interesting to explore the swimming pools's surrounding area. Divers can see diverse species of marine life. Some of the species found at the site are the grouper and the wrasse. These underwater landscapes allow the diver to capture breathtaking images. However precautions must be taken in case of heavy ocean flowing.
